After years of being maligned as old-fashioned and suburban, Pampas grass is now in vogue again. Its dense, silvery white plumes on strong, erect stems are held high above clumps of arching mid-green leaves in late summer. It has drama and staying power, and makes a stunning feature in a large garden. Sunningdale Silver does get very big though, so give it plenty of room.
Garden careProtect crowns of young plants in their first winter. In late winter or early spring, cut and comb out the last years stems and dead foliage. Take care to avoid the sharp leaf edges
