A native to the U.S., this upright perennial produces masses of deep purple-pink or white flowers in late summer and autumn, which are great for cutting. These flowers act as a magnet to bees and butterflies so are perfect for wild gardens. They will flourish in most soils and become quite drought tolerant with age. They flower best in full sun and are said to be resistant to deer.

  • garden Care: They spread by creeping rhizomes, so if they get too big you can lift and divide the clump in early spring. As they set seed quite freely, you should try to deadhead the spent flowers if you don't want lots more plants.
